In Old Hawaii, before the introduction of woven textiles, kapa (bark cloth) was generally used for both clothing and bedding. The dyes used were made from various plants and applied by brushing, stamping, or soaking the entire piece. These images are from the collection of The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum in Honolulu.
